About Us

Rachael and I have officially quit our jobs, gotten married and embarked on an indefinite / year-long “trip around the planet.”  We started talking about this a couple years ago and decided to make it happen for two real reasons:

1) We’ve saved some money and don’t want to wait until retirement to see the world and explore. There are too many surprises in life, some good, some bad that will limit our ability to be as free as we are today and we didn’t want to let that get in the way of this dream.

2) Admittedly, we wanted to delay some big life decisions that are looming and that are asked of us on a regular basis like: “where are we going to settle down?” and “what do you want to do after Coinbase / Ampush / FS Vector?” We see a lot of our friends and family members making strategic choices to live in a city, buy property and start families, but we’re just not there yet. We want to expand our perspective, learn about what’s really important to each of us before we start making these types of decisions, so as much as it’s a decision to delay decision-making, it’s also a deliberate choice.

The idea for a blog came up between the two of us as we started thinking about the trip as a way to chronicle all we’re doing, keep our loved ones in the loop, and frankly a way to push us outside our comfort zones and challenge us while we’re abroad. Each piece will have some personal reflection, some perspective into what I learned about the country’s culture, food, drink, history, etc, and maybe some insight into what I learn about myself / Rach along the way. I promise to keep these relatively fun and readable, but please send your feedback; I would love to hear your thoughts, good and bad (don’t hold back!).
